My Training, Education & Experience

Here is a list of my main trainings. The majority of my training was in experiential group setting. Meaning that I worked with professionals in experiential – physical action psychodrama healing work which focused on actual emotional expression work and from my experiences and memories of my life. This work was shown and expressed with others in a group setting. It was specifically – on myself and I took part in the intimate healing work of others involved.  I did psychodrama therapy and training. It is beyond  “just-talk” counseling – where someone advises or tells you to do these techniques or change your thinking.

I have also included two programs that I found to be **troubling and questionable**. These programs are marked with **asterisk** For me these programs were run by unhealthy leaders and the methods were misused –  these I do not recommend.**

Over 40 years experience in Martial Arts, I have Black Belts in Tae Kwon – Do, Karate and have trained and studied Boxing, Jiu-Jitsu, Tang Soo – Do, Aikido, Kempo, Kendo, Wing Chun, Wrestling and I am trained in a range of International Security Services.
I founded the first Kickboxing school in Western Canada. I have taught martial arts, self-defense, and fitness for over 40 years.

Community Service – Volunteer Service
I founded and ran a Winnipeg North-End – Core – inner-city crime prevention program called “Maskanas – The Way”. It was a program that used Martial Arts and fitness to help minimize the effects of poverty and social dysfunction.

I volunteered extensively throughout my life at places such as the YMCA, Riding for the Disabled, John Howard Society, Indian & Metis Friendship Center, Stony Mountain Federal Penitentiary, and North American Indigenous Games.

In 2000, in Toronto, I was hired as the head therapist at the then-oldest Native Indigenous/Tribal Treatment for Addictions center in Canada.  It was a traditionally based Native American healing drug and alcohol treatment center named Pedahbun Lodge. It is now closed down. Sadly – tragically, I had to expose the director and other staff who were abusing clients, finances, and the system. I made many offerings to resolve the unhealthiness of all the individuals doing criminal activities in this place – ALL were refused. Only after more tragedy, did the government step up – finally – and Pehdabun Lodge was closed down – forever.  This story can be checked out in Toronto newspaper archives – news reports on Pedahbun Lodge.

I included these facts to show my intention to right wrongs – to resolve dysfunction and heal issues in an honest – direct way.

I believe in our ability to heal… and I am committed to being of service. Thank you, Pidamaya, Meegwetch, Egosi, Merci

While, I have more than the required 300 hours (500) training for the American Society of Experiential Therapist’s accreditation – I am not accredited as an Experiential Therapist.*

I use the process of strategies from all my trainings. My training was not just training or classes, it was my own experiential psycho-therapy process. I trained with Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Doctors, Nurses and other Therapists from around the world – each person had to do their own personal healing work. This was required because “Healers need to heal themselves first.”

I sought safety and needed lots of proof that those who would help me – would be kind, compassionate and healthy themselves. Must trust level was poor and my intellectualizing / rationalizing was powerful. Powerful and negative! At Onsite Training and Consulting, where I did the majority of my treatments and training, I got this healthiness. What a blessing.

First, my quest was to become healthier – as a helper, a parent, a partner. It was my intention to just become free of grief, terror, shame and the negative legacy of being an “Indian” – a male – a man and soul lost. This is part of my healing journey.

In a period of 7 years I have spent more than 300 days in actual deep intensive therapy and training.

I have spent many years times – hours, days, years participating and training in “spiritual” “faith” various ways that some people call “religion”. I am committed to this aspect of my walking my talk and understanding my responsibility being as a part – Mitakuye Oyasin  – where I  live to always be conscientious of my Native North American traditional ways.

The work I do is assisting and sharing. I call this Experiential LifeSkills that I share as – assisting you in understanding your steps in your journey in healing.

I assist those who ask – as an experienced Guide, Tracker and Scout. I share in practical grounded language and straight-forward no tricks or gimmicks to learning healthier ways to live. The Spirit Warrior Way is done through transformational guiding and tracking for re-training participants to making and understanding healthier empowering decisions in their lives. And then ensuring that skills learned will help you to continue living  in the positive productive life they – – you choose, you learn to ask for what you want… and need. These are life skills based in emotional understanding and discipline through re-establishing one’s own balanced and harmonious understanding of their past and present individual living process.

*I am drug and alcohol free. I am open for discussing relevant and healthy questioning of my personal and private life. I offer this because I believe that any helper must be willing to allow prospective clients or participants with a genuine, legitimate question or concern in receiving help, to ask for proof of ability and capacity of the helper. To be questioned is part of the healing process and to have safety on this quest to allow help and healing.

Today, I attend various “Religions” to keep my mind and heart open to being connected to the sacredness of human beings.
I will always honor all my Native North American Tribal bloodlines and I will always carry the Cannupa – the  Sacred  Pipe – with dignity. I still participate with all my heart – honorably – in other ways of faith.

Pidamaya – Thank you,
Mitakuye Oyasin – we are all related.

Sincerely,

Jaye A. La Vallee
